The daily lives of people throughout the world have changed dramatically since the arrival of COVID-19 and it has had a devastating impact on South Africa, in particular the destitute and vulnerable.
Community Chest continues to play a vital role in supporting the local community, having aligned with credible partners who are strategically situated in areas around the Nelson Mandela Bay, and are able to reach the vulnerable community members in the most desolate areas.
Their annual Winter Woolly Drive has been reaching out to the vulnerable during the cold winter months for more than 20 years.
“In order to mitigate the possibility of families facing the harsh winter conditions, we will be running our Winter Woolly Drive, collecting clothing and blankets to assist those in desperate need,” said Community Chest Eastern Cape CEO, Selwyn Willis.
The Walmer Park Shopping Centre has offered to serve as one of the drop-off points for the public to donate. “As winter draws in the icy cold weather, we at the Walmer Park Shopping Centre encourage our shoppers and the wider community of Port Elizabeth to dig deep this Mandela Month by donating warm winter items at our information kiosk,” said Deveda Bloem, marketing manager for the Walmer Park Shopping Centre.
“In order to further assist Community Chest and the incredible work they do for our city, we are proud to donate 100 warm winter blankets which they are able to distribute immediately,” said Bloem.
Donations can be dropped off at the Walmer Park Shopping Centre information kiosk. Alternatively, drop off at the Community Chest offices at 39 Heugh Road, Walmer, on Mondays or Wednesdays between 09:00 and 13:00.
