TWO old age homes in Port Elizabeth benefited from the Community Chest’s COVID-19 food relief project recently.

Community Chest received funding from the Mandela Bay Development Agency for the project, which was aimed at providing food relief to the destitute in local communities during lockdown, especially the elderly.

“A large majority of them do not have the means to go to stores to purchase much needed food necessities; hence the decision to assist them,” said Community Chest Eastern Cape project manager, Sandy Geswint-Abdoll.

Adcock Old Age Homes and Elizabeth Old Age Homes, both situated in Schauderville, benefited from the project on Tuesday, September 15.

Community Chest handed out 130 nutritional food parcels, which included proteins, starch, dry ingredients and fresh fruit and vegetables.

Each resident will also receive a washable face mask and a bar of soap.
