THE importance of reading and the benefits thereof is what inspired The IIE’s Varsity College Nelson Mandela Bay’s VC Cares Committee (student volunteer body) and the campus’s information centre to host a recent book drive for pre-loved and new books for Canzibe Primary School.

The book drive, held during the first semester, provided students and staff with the opportunity to donate pre-loved, new books or cash to the school.

The cash donations were used to purchase 40 isiXhosa books.

Jaci Howell, student wellness manager at The IIE’s Varsity College Nelson Mandela Bay, said, “The English and isiXhosa books cover topics/themes on building self-confidence, self-esteem and self-acceptance. We wanted the book drive to be meaningful which was what led to the specific age group of books as well as languages chosen.

“We hope the book donation will have a positive impact on the learners and assist in their journey of learning and reading.”
