Janusz Walus, the killer of South African Communist Party leader, Chris Hani back in 1993, has been released on parole.
According to Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Ronald Lamola, Walus was released today, December 7.
He was supposed to be released a week ago, but was recuperating in hospital following a stabbing incident. He was discharged today and immediately released.
Lamola said that Walus will be placed under strict parole conditions.
“He will serve two years under community corrections in line with the parole regime upon which he is released,” Lamola said.
His release follows a judgement made by the Constitutional Court in November to grant him parole.
