Checkers and the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) will be bringing energy, wellness and community spirit together with an exciting ‘Silent Dancing’ event as part of this year’s Cuppa For CANSA campaign.

The event forms part of Checkers Eastern Cape’s wellness approach for 2026 and promises a unique experience where supporters can dance for a good cause while promoting health, positivity and cancer awareness.

According to a statement, owing to the availability of 100 headphone sets, the event will be divided into two sessions. “The first session will take place from 10:00 to 11:30, while the second session will run from 12:00 to 13:30.”

It added that supporters are encouraged to dress up for the occasion, with themes including disco, pink for CANSA, superheroes and other creative wellness-inspired outfits.

Tickets are available at R100 each and can be purchased from hostesses, Baywest Checkers Hyper and the CANSA Gqeberha Care Centre.

“Each ticket includes a 15-minute Zumba session presented by Penny Olwage, a lead volunteer and CANSA Relay for Life Global Hero of Hope, followed by 35 minutes of silent dancing,” it read. “Participants will receive a bottle of water during the session, and headphones will be supplied and sanitised between sessions.”

After dancing, supporters will be treated to refreshments including smoothies, fruit, filled croissants, muffins and snacks.

Public Relations Manager for Checkers Eastern Cape, Esmeralda Essex, said the event aims to combine wellness, fun and community involvement in support of CANSA’s important work.

“This event is about creating an uplifting and memorable experience while supporting a meaningful cause. Wellness is an important focus for us this year, and we are excited to partner with CANSA in bringing the community together through music, movement and fun,” said Essex.

Sustainability Coordinator for CANSA, Marius de Vries, said the organisation values the continued partnership with Checkers Eastern Cape.

“Cuppa For CANSA has always been about communities standing together in support of those affected by cancer. The Silent Dancing event adds a fresh and exciting element to this year’s campaign and allows supporters to make a difference while enjoying a healthy and interactive experience,” said De Vries.

A lucky draw will take place between sessions, with giveaways sponsored by CANSA and Checkers. “The best-dressed group on the day will also stand a chance to win a R500 Checkers voucher,” the statement added.

In addition to the event, all Eastern Cape Checkers stores will host Cuppa For CANSA initiatives throughout the month of June, encouraging customers and communities to support cancer awareness and fundraising efforts across the province.
