The Provincial Organised Crime Investigation, Gang Investigation unit, tracked and arrested suspects involved in the brutal murders of Christopher Mentoor (28), Darren Aphew (29) and Winston Clarke (30) on Tuesday, August 8, in Booysens Park.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged on Friday, August 11, the investigation team conducted several suspect raiding operations within the areas of Extention 21, Bethelsdorp, where they arrested three suspects (two men aged 35 and 37 and one woman aged 35) on charges of murder, arson and assault to cause grievous bodily harm.

She said it is alleged that at approximately 01:10 on Roman Street, Booysens Park, suspects entered the house where the owner (deceased) was socialising with his girlfriend and three other friends (two men and one woman).

“It is alleged that the suspects were looking for drugs.

“All the occupants were assaulted. One victim, a woman, was stabbed in the arm, and the second woman had no visible injuries. Both women were outside the house when the suspects tied up the three men; they allegedly poured petrol in the house,” said Janse Van Rensburg.

“The three victims were engulfed by the flames and burned to death. The incident is suspected to be gang-related.”

The three suspects will appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s court on Monday, August 14.
