LIVERPOOL FC chairperson, Thanduxolo Yebho Ntoni, encouraged players to make use of a new training time during the national lockdown.

Ntoni stated that his players made use of the opportunity to run individually within a 5km radius from their home from 06:00 to 09:00. He divulged that his club communicates through a WhatsApp group for information-sharing purposes. He thanked the government for giving people an opportunity to jog.

According to Ntoni, Liverpool management discouraged their players from taking part in informal games.

Ntoni explained, “Our players respect the call from our management and they have been observing national lockdown regulations.

“Since the announcement that jogging is allowed on Level 4 between 06:00 and 09:00, we have encouraged our players to use that opportunity, but not to run in groups.”

Ntoni revealed that the Covid-19 had interrupted their day-to-day running of the club, such as their weekly meetings. Liverpool FC were supposed to have held their annual congress but it was postponed until further notice because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“But due to Covid-19, we have halted everything. We are complying with the national lockdown rules and regulations that are set by the government. In fact, I appeal to all players to run individually during this Level 4.

“We take this opportunity, as the club, to again encourage the community of Motherwell to keep safe under these trying times and obey the regulations as prescribed by the government. To our players, we believe that this Covid-19 will pass and we will live a normal life and we will be able to play our favourite sport,” said Ntoni.

He concluded by saying that the situation did not allow people to play any kind of sport. In order to flatten the curve of this pandemic, he said people should wash their hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or they should use sanitizers; they should minimise contact; they should wear their masks and gloves and keep social distancing.
