FANS were treated to football of a high level as Camper United overcame Roaring Tigers 2–1 during their SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay Hollywood Bets Men’s Regional League game at Motherwell NU 11 Stadium on Saturday.
As Tigers have not yet accumulated three league points since the league started, they took the game to the hosts. Camper defenders, marshalled by Andile Ngqunge, did their homework. Tigers’ seasoned mid-fielder, Vuyolwethu Dingana, laid some good passes, but his front men could not beat Camper’s diminutive goalkeeper, Ayola Tiki, who was on top of his game.
Bulelani Nongoma and Khanyiso Ndarhana read each other like an open book in the mid-field of Camper, whose efforts paid dividends to their side. Masibulele Gxagxani scored Camper’s opening goal in the first half. Tigers kept on searching for their equaliser, with Siyolo delivering a salvo from long range that beat Tiki in the second half, to level the score.
Camper piled pressure on Tigers’ defenders who failed to communicate with their goalkeeper, Thobela Teta, in clearing Ndarhana’s cross from the right side, with Liyahluma Katazela scoring Camper United’s winning goal, cutting short Tigers’ supporters’ joy.
Red Lions rubbed salt into the wounds of Tigers as they defeated them 3–0 at Chevrolet Stadium in New Brighton on Sunday. Camper continued their winning ways after they secured the away match 1–0 from Port Elizabeth FC at Gelvandale Stadium on Sunday.
