Following the return to work of Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Library Services officials in October, the City is set to open most libraries for the return of all library material from Monday, 16 November.
This comes after the libraries were closed to the public for more than seven months, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the one-month preparation period, the City has put measures in place in line with the COVID-19 regulations to ensure the safety of staff members and residents.
Library material will be accepted at the entrance of each library and taken under a quarantine period. Patrons will not be allowed inside the libraries; however, they will be offered a “call and collect” service for material they wish to borrow.
Due to severe vandalism during the national lockdown, the Allanridge, KwaMagxaki, Chatty and Motherwell libraries will remain closed.
Residents are also advised that the North End library is currently closed due to a COVID-19 positive case but will be reopened on 19 November.
As part of the phased approach to the reopening of libraries, patrons are encouraged to return all library material promptly, to enable the libraries to complete a quarantine period for the material before opening for lending.
When visiting the facilities, residents must wear masks at all times.
The libraries will be open between 09:00 and 15:30 from Monday to Thursday and from 09:00 to 13:30 on Fridays.
