SAPS Gelvandale detectives are urgently seeking the
community’s assistance in tracing the mother of a newborn baby that was found in a sanitary bin
last night, May 8, in Cleary Park.
Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that an employee at a fast food franchise in Cleary Park made the disturbing
discovery of a newborn baby girl in a plastic bag thrown into a sanitary
bin in the toilet.
The gruesome discovery was made at approximately 20:30.
The umbilical cord was still attached to the child. The baby
was in a partial state of decomposition and staff became suspicious after a
constant foul smell lingered in the toilet. At this stage no other information is available and
police have opened an inquest docket,” Naidu said.
Anyone who can assist police in tracing the mother
of the infant or may be suspicious of any female who may have given birth and
there is no sign of a child, is asked to contact D/W/O Edman Mandeka at
