Body of man found near old Swartkops power station after alleged drowning

The body of an unidentified man, believed to be between 30 and 35 years old, was found in the Swartkops area after he allegedly entered the water at the old Swartkops power station cooling canal on February 15.

According to police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, it is alleged that at approximately 04:00, SAPS Swartkops were stopped by a member of the community regarding a possible drowning.

She said the deceased was dressed in a cream long-sleeved top, blue denim jeans, and black tekkies.

“The body was recovered by the SAPS Diving Unit, and an inquest has been opened for further investigation.”
