IT doesn’t get any easier for the Brandwag rugby team, which is enjoying a fine season.

After getting the better of Daniel Pienaar in a tough Kariega derby this past Saturday, an even bigger challenge awaits the Wolf Pack in their next assignment. They take on highly rated Outeniqua this coming Saturday, in George, in what should be another thrilling match.

Brandwag won the derby 22-13 but was pushed all the way by DP.

Brandwag took the lead for the first time just before half-time when Jason Oosthuizen scored.

An intercept try by Jamaine Dampies, against the run of play in the second half, made sure Brandwag kept their noses in front.

The derby, and most of last Saturday’s matches, were played in wet conditions which made handling difficult, but it didn’t take anything away from the intense rivalry. Most matches were close affairs that could have gone either way. Another fierce derby was between Grey and Wynberg. The visitors just got home by 18-16.

This match was played on the Philip-field at Grey but this Saturday it will be the Kolisi-field when Queen’s College visits. Grey has announced that their main field will be renamed to honour ex-learner and the current Springbok captain, Siya Kolisi.
