Mount Road detectives are investigating a robbery case that occurred on September 2, in Mount Croix where three Belgian tourists were robbed of their belongings.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged that on Saturday, September 2, at approximately 23:20, three women visiting from Belgium were walking up Mount Road, Mount Croix, going back to their accommodation when they were approached by two suspects who came from the opposite side of the road towards them.
She said a third suspect also approached them and they were armed with knives.
“The suspects demanded their cell phones and money. The suspects then fled with three iPhones, an undisclosed amount of cash, passports, and credit cards,” said Janse Van Rensburg.
She said that the victims were not injured and the investigation will continue.
“Police are urging guest houses, hotels, and other places that offer accommodation to advise their guests on their safety and protection especially walking around at night,” said Janse Van Rensburg.
“Tourists are unaware of the crime, hence to protect them from harm or danger that may befall them, at some extent the onus of responsibility lies on the law-abiding citizens of this country.”
Anyone who can assist or provide any information relating to the robbery is asked to contact SAPS Mount Road on 041 394 6316/6243 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or the nearest police station. All information is confidential and callers may remain anonymous.
