Rresidents of Nelson Mandela Bay have the opportunity to be tourists in their own city and explore everything that the Bay has to offer, with the All Aboard Locally Yours Tour offered by the Locally Yours Market.

The Market celebrates five years this year, and in celebration of this sustainable growth they are now offering the Tour on the Upper Deck double-decker cruise bus.

Members of the media, including certain stakeholders and social media influencers, were recently taken on the Tour to showcase what residents can expect when taking the Tour themselves.

Starting at the Boardwalk Mall, the bus makes its way to The Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB), where locals and visitors can experience the quiet, yet sometimes funny antics of the penguins, some of them being the endangered African Penguin species.

At this facility, a tour is given of the facility, along with a detailed presentation covering information about penguins.

The itinerary also includes a visit to the Cape Recife Lighthouse, where people can explore the surrounds and take numerous selfies at the selfie booth situated at the top of a sand dune.

Unalome Marketing and Public Relations Officer, Reuann Smith, said that the picturesque Cape Recife Lighthouse, located in the 366-hectare Cape Recife Nature Reserve, is a popular attraction for many who want to be amazed at the magnificent 24-story lighthouse.

“It’s even perfect for those wanting to take advantage of the ‘Instagrammable’ surroundings,” Smith said.

“The lighthouse was built in 1851 to warn passing ships of the dangers of Thunderbolt Reef. It was the first lighthouse constructed in the Nelson Mandela Bay area and is situated on the southern point of Algoa Bay.

“Making the tour even more exciting is the experience of hopping on and off a double-decker bus; plus passengers can win vouchers to spend at the market by uploading their favourite moments to social media using the hashtags #LocallyYoursTour and #AllAboard.

Market vendors are also excited to offer tour-goers discounts at selected stalls on market day,” she added.

The last stop will be back to the Boardwalk Mall to take part in the hustle and bustle of the market that takes place at this Mall once every month.

Locally Yours Market director, Annelize Botha, said that the Locally Yours Market prides itself on showcasing the best handmade, grown, crafted, cooked, baked, and designed goods by local entrepreneurs.

“I was so emotional earlier because I told the others that it is so strange when we started that people asked, ‘a what?’ We said, ‘a local handmade market’ and they said, ‘oh it will never work. Nelson Mandela Bay can sometimes be so strange.’

“But it has been five years and it has been the most incredible journey. It was a journey that started because of my husband’s stroke in Johannesburg 10 years ago that brought me home,” said Botha. “It was a complete change of career, and I have met the most incredible people along this journey. Locally Yours Market is so thankful for the support from locals and visitors who have helped us reach this wonderful five-year birthday celebration.

“Through the years, we have continued to expand with a retail shop in Walmer, developing an online store, and this year will reveal a host of activities to complement the market and expand the product offerings.

“The bus tour is the first new activity, and by April we hope to expand the activities during market day to entertain children,” she added.

Tickets to experience the All Aboard Locally Yours Tour on the Upper Deck double-decker bus cost R120 for children under 12 years and R140 for adults.

These can be pre-booked online via the Locally Yours website, and a limited number will be available on the day. Tours will run twice daily on market days, with the morning tour departing at 9:30 and returning at 12:30, and the afternoon tour departing at 13:30, returning at 15:30.

Ticket bookings and information on the tour and market days can be accessed on www.locallyyours.co.za.
