GQEBERHA – Looking for that special event to celebrate Women’s Month in Nelson Mandela Bay? Look no further than your favourite regional mall for The Big on Style Baywest Fashion Showcase.
The multi-tenant runway event celebrating Women’s Month takes place from 11:00 to 13:00 on 8 August at the Baywest Mall Centre Court.
Much more than just a fashion event, the showcase will see shoppers walk away with ideas for a brand-new wardrobe, goody bags packed with discounts and sponsored items for the first 30 attendees, as well as some pampering, inspiration and encouragement, all in celebration of being a woman.
The Centre Court is set to be transformed into a professionally choreographed runway featuring more than 50 looks and 42 models across 10 scenes.
The curated design collection will showcase items from retailers in Baywest Mall, including Edgars, Foschini, Legit, Contempo, Relay Jeans, Refinery, Markham, Jet, Exact, Jam Clothing, Miladys, Clothing Junction and Tekkie Town.
In addition, the Nelson Mandela University Department of Visual Arts will present its archival capsule collection, “Smoulder”, and the fashion show will end with a dedicated Bridal Showcase featuring top local designers’ work.
Produced by The G.O.A.T Group, choreographed by Sophisticate Models, and hosted by Algoa FM presenter Roch-Lé Bloem, the fashion showcase is built around the idea that every look, every model and every scene reflects the full range of South African womanhood.
Delon le Roux of The G.O.A.T Group, Production Manager for the event, said, “This is not a fashion show about clothes. It is a fashion show about women, every shape, every age, every story.”
The Nelson Mandela University Department of Visual Arts collection forms part of the department’s archive, featuring garments by Pumelela Mlenze, fashion and textile designer, NMU Fashion Design Department staff member, and an alumnus of the NMU Department of Visual Arts.
This marks the first time that an NMU archival collection has been integrated into a commercial retail fashion event at Baywest Mall.
Baywest Mall Marketing Manager Lindsay Davies said that, other than the main fashion show, shoppers will be able to select their own flowers to build a bouquet with the BIG on Blooms Flower Cart, take selfies at the gorgeous mirror selfie station, and participate in the BIG on Inspiration Installation Wall by writing words of affirmation and appreciation to their fellow women.
Attendees will also stand a chance to win lucky draw prizes during the fashion show and can visit the beauty corner where MAC Cosmetics, Stylish Steppers and Indalo Spa will offer express styling, complimentary makeup touch-ups and wellness treatments.
