KUHLE Adams, from KwaMagxaki, Port Elizabeth, is one of the Expresso Morning Show’s newest presenters, after winning a presenter search competition recently.
Adams, who attended Strelitzia High School in Uitenhage, is no stranger to being in front of the camera. She made it to the top three of the MTV Base VJ search competition in 2017. PE Express checked in with her to find out more about her journey to becoming a presenter on the popular breakfast show.
Have you always wanted to be a TV presenter?
Adams: Yes, I have, as far as I can remember.
Who inspired you to follow this career path?
Adams: Twasa (Seipati Seoke) from Jam Alley and Bonang Matheba, when she was on Live.
What was your highlight during the presenter search?
Adams: Growing and learning so much, expanding my knowledge of the industry and pushing myself each week.
What was your reaction/feelings when you were named as one of the presenters for the Expresso Show?
Adams: I couldn’t believe it. I entered hoping to win, but when it actually happened it was absolutely amazing! A dream come true.
How has your life changed since becoming a presenter?
Adams: I get to travel and see life through a different lens. I am on television every day and a lot more people recognise me, which is great, and everyone is so friendly.
How did you remain motivated after ending your journey in the MTV Base VJ search competition?
Adams: I knew what I wanted, and that one “No” is not there to set you back but to push you even more. I didn’t want to give up, so I just kept on going.
Any words of encouragement or advice for someone interested in following a career in entertainment?
Adams: You need to know what you want and believe in it. An overnight success takes years to achieve. Continuously work on your craft and be persistent with it.
What are the elements that make a good TV presenter?
Adams: Personality and being genuine to yourself and the audience. Being able to communicate your feelings and experiences articulately so they can share the experience.
You have received a great amount of positive feedback from the public. How does this make you feel?
Adams: The support has been great from social media and in real life. People want to see me grow and win. I love it so much. It’s heart-warming. My success is not mine alone, so I hope to inspire more people to succeed and continue pursuing their dreams.
What is your hope for your career in the future?
Adams: I hope to grow and be bigger in the industry. I want to be a household name and continue to inspire people and share my experiences with them.
