THE talented Amaron Borchards, more commonly known as Ammy, will be heading to Orlando in Florida to perform at the Applause Rising Talent Showcase.
Ammy auditioned in Port Elizabeth for the International Applause Rising Talent Showcase (ARTS) in June last year and performed in front of talent scouts, Elsubie Verlinden and Elouise Janse van Rensburg.
“I received a callback and went through to the Johannesburg round.
“The auditions took place in front of Rhavynn Drummer, Tyler Perry Studios’ casting director, and Kim Myers, the Founder of the Applause Rising Talent Showcase,” Ammy said.
She was invited by Meyers to represent South Africa at the ARTS in Orlando.
The ARTS is a platform where actors, dancers, singers and models are exposed to international agencies in the entertainment industry.
Ammy has made work of seeking out sponsorships and hosting events which will hopefully raise enough money for the talented artist to attend the ARTS this year and achieve her dreams.
She commented, “The funds to be able to attend the show have been a little scarce.
“I’m hosting several fund-raising events to achieve my goal of going abroad to represent my country.
“However, I will not let this hold me back from my passion for music.”
She performed at The Sybil Live show in PE last year, where she was an opening act for international legends, Judy Boucher and Sybil.
“It has been so surreal to be on a stage with Sybil and Judy Boucher.
“I appreciated the opportunity to open for these renowned artists,” Ammy added.
Born and raised in Port Elizabeth, Ammy performed her first singing solo at the age of eight and grew up singing solos in church.
“I was actively involved in drama and, at the age of 12, I started attending Helen O Grady’s Drama School.
“I have a real passion for the arts and music and strive to be unique and authentic to who I am as an artist.”
Ammy, now 22, attended Alexander Road High in PE, and her creative journey started in her matric year in 2014, when she was cast for the main school play, Godspell by John-Micheal Tebelak.
“I then went on to enrol in AFDA, a school of motion picture medium and live performance and majored in musical performance,” Ammy said.
Ammy graduated with a bachelor’s degree in live performance.
She has since released two EPs, titled Bubblegumtown and New Glow, along with the music videos of the singles.
“New Glow was produced by the band, Afrotronixx, and can be streamed on Soundcloud and is a available on Google Play Music, Spotify, iTunes and other platforms.
“I’m looking forward to performing in Florida and making South Africa proud,” Ammy added.
