Residents in Nelson Mandela Bay can book drivers’ and learners’ licenses online from 1 March.

Diligent efforts to streamline services at the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Drivers License Testing Centres (DLTC) paid off with the availability of an online booking system from Monday, 1 March.

This means the booking of an appointment to renew drivers’ licenses can be done seamlessly from home and the booking of appointment slots for learners’ and drivers’ licenses is now much more simplified.

Cllr John Best, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security, said he is excited that a major milestone has been achieved in addressing the endless long queues at the traffic department.

“Residents will now be able to make a booking in the comfort of their homes by logging onto https://www.online.natis.gov.za and book appointments and drivers’ license renewals in less than ten minutes.

“This will undoubtedly go a long way towards lessening the friction of wasting time in queues at these facilities to complete these important transactions.

“When I first took up the MMC position in 2016, the streamlining of services at the traffic departments always ranked high on my priority list and now we reached a point where residents can take greater charge of the process.

“We can all heave a collective sigh of relief.

“Although we might still experience teething problems when we go live on Monday, I am sure we will be able to improve as we embrace the computer age,” Best said.

For learners’ and drivers’ licenses, consumers are still required to go to the selected traffic department within three days of making the online booking for eye tests and to pay the requisite transaction fee.

Warren Prins, Head of Traffic and Licensing, says terminals at the Driving License and Testing Centres in Korsten (Gqeberha) and Kariega (formerly Uitenhage) are considered for online access as well as other digital solutions to provide access points in communities to further streamline services.

“It took numerous engagements with the Department of Transport, who in turn had to collaborate with the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) to present our interest in order to realise this project.

“I am excited that our hard work paid off in the end,” Mr Prins said.
