GQEBERHA – A 32-year-old police constable is expected to appear in the Gqeberha Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 22 September, in connection with the alleged raped of a 15-year-old girl.

The constable is expected to apply for bail during the proceedings after being remanded in custody at his previous appearance on Monday, 21 September.

He was arrested on Saturday, 19 September, after police started investigations into the alleged rape of a minor at Mjiba Street in Greenfields, Gqeberha.

According to police, the investigation into the allegations is continuing.

Police spokesperson Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said police officers were expected to uphold the law, protect members of the community and conduct themselves with integrity and professionalism.

“Any member who is suspected of committing a criminal offence will be subjected to the same criminal justice processes as any other person,” Mawisa said. “No one is above the law.”
