The excitement of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers fixture bubbles in Gqeberha as Bafana Bafana prepares to face the Congolese National team at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on October 11 at 19:00.

During a Match Day press conference, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos expressed his contentment with the squad’s fitness and game plan ahead of the clash.

“With the whole squad together and training together on Tuesday, October 8, I am more confident than at the beginning of the camp. We trained very well, and we are prepared to face Congo,” said Broos.

This was supported by Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams, who added, “There has been a change in mentality from the team, and it’s evident from this week’s training sessions. Once the team was together, the team spirit was there again, and the new players settled in well in the team.”

Williams characterised the team’s last two performances as “not good enough,” while mentioning that the team is aware that they need to perform better in the upcoming games. He also mentioned that since his exclusion from the National team, he is more prepared than ever to give his all in the upcoming clashes against Congo as he had a break from football.

“I was out for a long time, so that was a setback for me. A good setback though, because it allowed me to miss the game a little bit. I played so much football in the last two years without a break, so this break was needed as it brought back the passion I have for the game,” said Williams.

Williams also pleaded with the residents of his hometown, Gqeberha, to come in numbers to support and rally behind the team as they face Congo.

“We would like to urge the whole of Gqeberha to come support and show the love to the boys during the game,” he added.
