The so-called babies, the two-year-old’s, will have the last say in the East Cape horse racing season.
It is the last meeting of the season, this coming Friday at the Fairview track in Greenbushes, and all eyes will be on the babies.
The two-year-old’s will contest the main race at the meeting when they will be aiming to win the Champion Juvenile Cup.
It has been a good season for the Fairview two-year-old’s with the colt, Cliff Top and the fillies, Chere For Me and Ekoria, producing some brilliant performances.
The Champion Juvenile Cup should be a thrilling race and will make sure the local season ends on a high note.
It was a season dominated by the strong yards of Gavin Smith and Alan Greeff. They will no doubt pick up most of the end of the season awards.
If you thought that there is a nice, relaxing break when the season ends this weekend, you are so very wrong.
The brand new South African racing season starts straight away on Monday and what better place to get it going than at Fairview with a meeting on the Polytrack.
The winning connections in the first race on Monday will secure bragging rights as the first to win a race in the new season.
August is going to be an extremely busy month at Fairview. There will be six meetings – five on the Poly and one on the Turf track.
The meeting on the turf on August 5 is a big one. Top horses are expected to run in the East Cape Paddock Stakes (fillies and mares) and Memorial Mile.
A few horses from Cape Town will probably make the trip to Fairview to add some more spice to the meeting.
It is good to see that more and more spectators are starting their weekend with a visit to Fairview on a Friday afternoon now that COVID-19 restrictions are a thing of the past.
Last Friday, it was Keller Williams Explore that combined a day at the races with a team-building exercise and good fun was had by all.
