EIGHTY underprivileged community members in Ward 23 received donations of food parcels from the Pakistan South Africa Association during a handover at Enqileni Primary School in Motherwell on Saturday.
The association’s central secretary, Arshad Khan, revealed that they were approached by the Ward 23 community member, Zola Mtunzini, who told them that there were families in his ward who had nothing to eat.
Khan said, “We, as the Pakistan SA Association, are glad to be associated with the Ward 23 community members.
“Zola explained to us the whole plight of some members in his Ward 23.
“We jointly decided that we should do something to rescue this community. We learnt about their plight during this lockdown period.
“We know that Covid-19 spreads fast and kills people. It does not see the colour of persons. This donation comes from the little we have.”
Zola Mtunzini said he was very happy that the association had fulfilled their promise.
“I am over the moon to see our people receiving some food parcels.
“This food will make a difference to these families. I want to thank Khan and his team for what they have done for our people.”
Ward 23 committee member, Melikhaya Blani, said that his committee were so thankful when they heard that the association would lend a hand to the less-fortunate families.
Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Mayoral Committee member, Makhi Feni, appreciated the donation of food parcels.
Feni stated that the municipality was totally opposed to the criminals who loot shops, whether during the lockdown or not.
He added that community members should report these criminals to the police as soon as possible.
Ward 23 Councillor, Sandile Ndzandzeka, also thanked the Pakistan SA Association for coming to the rescue of the families who have nothing to eat.
One of beneficiaries, Siphokazi Bereng, expressed her heartfelt thanks to the association.
“I had nothing to feed my children but I want to thank Pakistan SA Association for their generous donation that they made possible to us today,” said Bereng.
“I want also to thank Zola Mtunzini for the trouble he has taken for us,” she said.
