Arnold Terblanche made his first appearance in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court this morning, March 24, since his release on bail of R1 million last month.
Dressed in a dark, formal coat, Terblanche sported a neat haircut and seemed to have gained back some of the weight that he claimed he had lost whilst in prison for more than a year.
Terblanche had previously told the court via an affidavit that he had lost approximately 20kg in prison.
Supported by two women, of which one is his daughter, Natalie Nell, Terblanche waited patiently to enter the courtroom.
The case was postponed until April 19.
A member of his legal team, Alwyn Griebenow, said that the reason for postponement was for the state to finalise the plea bargain (105 statement) of Terblanche’s co-accused, Dylan Cullis in the High Court.
Terblanche, Cullis and another co-accused, Reinhardt Leach, all face various charges relating to the murder of Terblanche’s estranged wife, Vicki Terblanche, who was Leach’s girlfriend at the time of her death.
After several attempts at bail and being denied each time, Terblanche was finally granted bail by the Makhanda High Court on February 9, 2023.
Leach and Cullis abandoned their bids for bail not long after their arrest in October 2021.
