IT doesn’t get any easier for the Grey High rugby players. After a tough time at the St John’s Festival over the Easter weekend in Johannesburg, another big challenge away from home lies ahead on Saturday.

The Gqeberha team will take on Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch, and this is never an easy assignment.

At St John’s it was Boland Landbou who beat Grey 22–12 on the first day, and then Grey faced Pretoria Boys’ High in the main match of the day on Saturday. This was an entertaining match, which Boys’ High won 26–19, but for long periods Grey was the best team on the field.

Framesby was at the Kearsney Festival in Durban, and also had a tough weekend. Monument beat Framesby 24–7 on the first day in a rather dull affair, and Durban High was always in control, beating Framesby 31–10 on Saturday.

Nico Malan (Humandorp) was at the KES Easter Festival in Johannesburg and started on a high note by beating St Davids 46–11.

In the second match Nico again produced some sparkling rugby, but picked up injuries and just ran out of a bit of steam late against Diamantveld. Diamantveld won 37–21.

Die Brandwag (Kariega), Pearson and Westering did very well at one of the longest running rugby weeks in the country, the Oakdale Festival, in Riversdale.

Lu-Crain Muggels (fly-half, Brandwag) and Kuhle Songelwa (Pearson) were named in the combined team of the tournament that was named after the last match.

Otto du Plessis was named “Team of the Tournament” at the Patriot Festival in Cape Town. They played some beautiful rugby, and it was a bit of a surprise that only one Otto player was included in the combined Festival team.

Zane Ackerman (flank) was rewarded for his consistent performances and high work rate with inclusion in this side.
