Two people died in an accident when their Mitsubishi Lancer overturned early this morning.

SAPS Kabega Park detectives are investigating a case of culpable homicide following an accident early this morning, 13 February on Old Cape Road near the St Albans area.   

According to Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, police spokesperson, it is alleged that at approximately 04:29 a resident in the area heard something and he suspected that is could be related to an accident.

“Upon following up, a white Mitsubishi Lancer was found in the bushes. No other vehicles were involved,” she said.

It is alleged that the driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned.

“The driver and the passenger died on the scene. At this stage the deceased is unknown and the names will only be released once the next of kin is traced. The investigation is ongoing.”

This is the second fatal accident this weekend, after three people died when they drove into the back of a stationary truck on the M4 freeway on Saturday, 12 February.

A white VW Polo collided into the back of the truck. All three occupants of the vehicle died on the scene.

Janse van Rensburg said the deceased have been identified as Ryan Cobb (38), Ryaad Bedford (50) and Bradley Fick (49).

The investigation is still ongoing.
