MOTHERWELL Football Association’s (MOFA) so-called small teams surprised the big guns during the MOFA Easter Annual Tournament over the past Easter weekend.
The 34-team event, which is a major tournament on the Nelson Mandela Bay soccer calendar, was full of surprises right from the round robin stage to the knockout rounds.
First Division sides held their own against Premier League sides throughout the event.
Seven Sundowns held Premier League outfit Real Aces into a 1-1 draw in their group stage game.
Sundowns also shocked the top-flight league side Young Tigers 1-0 in their round robin match. United FC also stunned Young Tigers 1-0 in their group stage game.
Eleven Stars defeated the cup specialists, Valencia, 1-0 in their group stage clash.
Milan Stars overcame Premier League side Tomorrow Stars 3-2 in their group stage clash.
Loyal supporters were dismayed when they saw Shining Stars kiss the tournament goodbye, following their 2-1 loss to first division side, Eleven Stars, during their last 16 team knockout stage match.
Despite their 2-1 loss, Tomorrow Stars gave the defending champions Motherwell Academy a run for their money.
