THE seventh Mzwandile Mali Memorial Schools Rugby Tournament was launched at Nangoza Jebe Small Hall in New Brighton on Friday.

The tournament is organised for township and village schools. According to Lincoln Mali, the tournament will be played by 20 Port Elizabeth schools teams, six teams from Makhanda (Grahamstown) and four teams from Fort Beaufort.

The games in Port Elizabeth will be played on a knockout basis at the Adcock Stadium from Friday, February 14, to Monday, February 17.

The quarter-finals will consist of six PE teams and one each from Makhanda and Fort Beaufort. These matches will be played on February 19, while the semi-finals take place at Wolfson Stadium in Kwazakhele on February 20.

“Our selectors, Lucky Mange and Sizwe Dlanga, have the inevitable task of selecting the best 25 players for the Mzwandile Mali Schools Rugby Squad for 2020 from all the games played in the three cities. These players will be introduced to specialised coaching and will play games between March and September.

“The best surprise for these 25 boys chosen for the Mzwandile Mali Squad is that they will tour England for 10 days in September at the invitation of the highly regarded Sevenoaks RFC,” said Mali.
