Round Table Southern Africa exists to make impactful change in communities and Southern Africa as a whole, and a local branch has made it happen yet again.

Round Table PE West 142 recently ran their Mile of Tins project and managed to raise R27 000 worth of non-perishable food for the Algoa Bay Council for the Aged.

“We retain and grow our members, young men willing to give up their time and skills to give back to those less fortunate.

“We inspire, we grow, we transform lives, we disrupt, we engage, we change,” said Pienaar Allers, the chairperson of Round Table PE West 142.

Round Table PE West 142 is one of the local clubs based in Gqeberha and has been in existence for the last 50 years, uplifting the community through fund-raisers.

Miles of Tins is one of their annual projects, where they spend their time collecting non-perishable foods for the elderly.

This year it was held on May 29 and they partnered with Checkers Lorraine at the Kamma Crossing retail centre, as the venue.

“The day started early for the young gentlemen setting up everything to be ready when shoppers arrived,” Allers said.

“With all COVID-19 protocols followed, the members took shifts and handed out flyers to the patrons throughout the day.

“Round Table PE West 142 members want to thank the kindhearted public who embraced us with open hearts.”

He said the day started very well and the momentum continued throughout the day with generous donations by the patrons. The trolleys filled up one by one and Round Table members were overwhelmed with the support.

At the end of the day they had managed to raise R27 000.

This year’s beneficiary – Algoa Bay Council for the Aged – relies severely on donations.

“The donations were handed over to them the very next morning; the donations were well received with gratitude as they could immediately start to make up food packs for the elderly in need,” Allers said.

“It was a very successful project and larger than that of previous years. It is great to see that the time spent by the members can make such an impact in the community.

“We want to thank Checkers Lorraine for allowing us to run the project at their premises and then for the public we kindly thank you for your generous donations. Together we made an impact on the lives of the elderly.”
