LAKE Farm Centre celebrated the 25th edition of their annual charity run and ride in mixed weather conditions on March 14 and 15.
Saturday’s events were rounded up by Gareth Burley, who hosted a prize-giving, lucky draw and an auction, which raised over R17 000 for Lake Farm Centre.
This year the Lake Farm Centre celebrates 60 years of providing a home and work place for 90 intellectually challenged residents from the Eastern Cape. The goal of the weekend is to raise much-needed funds and create awareness for Lake Farm Centre.
Race organisers, Achilles Club, said they were happy with the support the event received with 672 runners running the road distances on Saturday, and the 126 participants in Sunday’s mountain bike events.
Terrence Mjekula of Tinarha Athletics Club won the 10km run on Saturday in a time of 36.07. He was followed by Abdi Hassan of Nedbank Running Club in 36.37 and Llewellyn Barnard of Charlo Athletics Club in 36.44.
Kayla Nell of Charlo Athletics Club successfully defended the title she won in 2019, flying home in a faster time of 42.43.
She was followed by Michelle van der Watt of Elite Athletics Club in 48.15, and Laura Maritz of Infinity Athletics Club in a time of 48.49.
Nell was also the first female runner to finish the 5km. Jezwin Koetaan won the 5km distance.
The top three riders to finish the 20km mountain bike ride on Sunday were Patridge Chimwendo (17) in first, followed by Benjamin Brown (18) in second and Leon Claasen (54) in third.
Jenny Venter beat Errol Wasserfall to the finish on their e-bikes for the 20km.
The first three women to finish the 20km were Pauline Tunstead in first position, Lise Dodd in second and Anette Lemmer in third.
Alessandro Fanicchi (13) finished first in the 14km ride, followed by Bjorn Leuschner (14) and Scott Woods (38).
