YOUNG Teenagers’ FC collected silverware after they defeated Alexandria-based side Uhuru FC 5-1 during Peace Lovers’ FC Easter Tournament finals at Veeplaas Stadium last Monday.
Amachina’s (Young Teenagers’) triumph came after they booked themselves a berth in the finals in their hard-fought 3-2 victory over the favourites, Bay Tigers.
Uhuru FC struggled to register a close 3-2 triumph over Young Aces during the last semi-finals.
Amachina dominated Uhuru FC who were not expected to advance to the finals.
The Veeplaas lads proved why they were campaigning in the SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay SAB Regional League as they did not give Uhuru FC any space to breathe.
Teenagers managed to bang in two goals in the first half with their counterparts failing to find the back of the net. Uhuru FC scored their consolation goal, while Amachina were rewarded with three goals in the second half.
The winners, Teenagers, received a floating trophy, gold medals and R10 000, not R16 000 as was previously reported, while the runners-up, Uhuru FC, went home with silver medals and R4 000.
The losing semi-finalists, Young Aces and Bay Tigers, received the consolation prize of R1 000 each. Players who produced outstanding performances and the best managers and coaches received medals.
The tournament organiser, Mmeli Zidan Coko, thanked the clubs for participating in the tournament. “All the teams that took part in our tournament played exciting games and they were so disciplined.
“The match officials did also a good work and the local organising committee made a tournament a successful event.”
