The Family Violence Child
Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Gqeberha are seeking the community’s
assistance in tracing a rape suspect who allegedly raped a 15-year-old teenage
girl in January this year.
According to police reports, it
is alleged that on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at about 10:45, the teenager
was on her way to her aunt’s house and while walking in Standford Road, she was approached by an unknown male.
“The man concocted a story of assisting a person to sell cakes and pies and if the victim assisted him, they both
will be paid. As they were walking further down Stanford
Road, the suspect took her phone and pretended to make a call. The teenager had
no airtime, and it is then that she realised that she had been duped,” police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu said.
When the victim wanted to leave, the suspect allegedly threatened her with a knife and took her into the
bushes and raped her, Naidu said.
The victim then reported the matter to
her aunt and a case of rape was opened at SAPS Gelvandale.
Naidu further added that a facial composition (identikit) of
the suspect was compiled.
“The suspect is a coloured male between
the age of 35-40. He has a lump above his right eye. At the time, he was
wearing a red t-shirt, black shorts with green and white lines, black takkies
and short black hair. He is dark in complexion and is about 1.6m tall. He
informed the victim that he was from Katanga.”
Anyone who can assist police in
identifying the suspect can contact FCS, D/Const Mziwethemba Klaas 082 565 0189
