Whilst following up on information received about illegal drug activities in Central, members of the Anti-Gang Unit stumbled upon an alleged drug transaction taking place in the area.
Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that members were scouting the address at approximately 13:30 on Wednesday when they allegedly caught the 26-year-old suspect “in the act.”
When the suspect spotted the police, he started to run. AGU members chased after him on foot and apprehended him in Gordon Terrace.
“Upon searching the plastic bag in his possession, it was discovered that there were 293 plastic packets of Khat Cocaine, one black book, three cell phones and cash,” Naidu said.
“The estimated value of the drugs is R144 000.”
He was arrested on charges of dealing in drugs and possession of drugs and is expected to appear in the Gqeberha Magistrates Court soon.
In another unrelated incident, AGU Vispol and AGU detective members arrested a wanted attempted murder suspect at a house in Phoenix Street, Missionvale earlier the same day.
It is alleged that at about 11:00, the team followed up on information on the whereabouts of the 32-year-old suspect. “The house was tactically approached and searched. The suspect was arrested and detained for the alleged shooting of a 36-year-old man in Salt Pan, Algoa Park on January 13, 2022,” Naidu explained.
The complainant was allegedly walking with his girlfriend when the suspect approached him and fired two shots, hitting him in his leg and arm.
This suspect will also appear in the Gqeberha Magistrates Court soon.
