“EIGHTY percent of our awareness and perception comes through our eyes, which is the driving force of life.”
This is according to Gail Cillie, chairperson of Retina SA, who is also visually impaired.
In order to help change the future for individuals and families living with vision loss, Retina SA’s Wheels 4 Sight 2018 fundraiser, which is set to take place at Spiders Web in Despatch on May 5 from 09:00, will include attractions, such as an Eye Zone, live band entertainment, a VW display of vehicles and much more.
The Eye Zone, manned by Retina SA personnel, will provide services, such as free screening to see near or far, determine if spectacles are needed and discuss eye-related questions.
Jaco de Villiers of Luister FM will provide entertainment in the form of live bands, including Jacques Saaiman, Monique Marais, JJ Botha, Wanda van Rooyen, Marilize Els, Ru-Ana Wentzel and many more.
The “wheels” part of the fundraiser will be provided by Volkswagen.
A Type1 1300 Beetle, Type 1 1200 1963 Beetle and a Citi Golf concept car will form part of the display.
Entry to the Wheels 4 Sight 2018 fundraiser is R20 per adult, R10 for children and free to anyone under the age of six. Cloth badges will be sold at R10 each.
Proceeds will be donated to Retina SA for research to try to find genetic mistakes that cause blindness.
