It is said that “it takes a village to raise a child”.
At Greenwood Primary School, we focus on the academic, social, and creative development of each learner, and help them to discover and grow their natural talents.
We understand the importance of good communication between teachers, learners, and parents and guardians so that everyone knows they are a valuable part of the “Greenwood family tree.”
Currently we cater to 860 learners from pre-primary to Grade 7. Our learners are taught by 55 vibrant and passionate staff members.
Academics
When it comes to our academic programme, we strive to deliver the best foundation for our learners as well as incorporating life skills into a well-balanced academic package.
A remedial teacher and occupational therapist provide extra lessons to learners who require their services. These lessons are given at school, during school hours.
Greenwood also has one of the only Partially Hearing Units in the Eastern Cape. The unit employs seven staff members as well as an audiologist/speech therapist who teach the learners how to communicate verbally so that they can become fully integrated into hearing society, and continue to live up to their full potential.
Being a fully inclusive school, Greenwood Primary School also caters for children with learning disabilities.
Sport
Sport is one of Greenwood Primary School’s main pillars. We encourage our learners to participate in at least one summer, and one winter sport.
Our summer sports include tennis, squash, cricket and swimming, and our winter sports include soccer, hockey, and netball. We pride ourselves in catering for learners at every level of ability.
Performance in sport is not only measured by the scoreboard but by the teamwork and support team members display towards each other.
Culture
When it comes to cultural activities, we have fostered a tradition of excellence in our music and drama departments. We have a steel band, marimba band, and wind band which have excelled at a number of competitions over the years. Many of Greenwood’s music department pupils are highly sought after in prominent local high schools.
All of our drama productions have been nominated for The Herald Showtime Awards, and we have won many of the awards. We are very proud of our young performers who public acclaim in local newspapers and easy placement in high schools.
Greenwood Primary School is a safe, caring environment that aims to ensure your child has a holistic learning experience, setting them up for success in life.
