The 93rd Academy Awards (Oscars) took place at the Union Station in Los Angeles and the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center on Sunday, 25 April (early Monday morning SA time).
The Oscars honoured movies that were released in 2020.
South Africa’s Netflix documentary, My Octopus Teacher, took home the Oscar in the Documentary (Feature) category, beating four other documentaries in this category.
It was nominated alongside Collective (Romania), Crip Camp (USA), The Mole Agent (Chile) and Time (USA). Directors Pippa Ehrlich and James Reed accepted the golden statuette.
