A man that was arrested for the kidnapping of a 10-year-old girl on Saturday, 14 November will appear in court today on a case of statutory rape.
The girl was found at about 17:00 on Sunday, 15 November by community members in Vuku Street, New Brighton.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, she has been reunited with her family. She was taken to hospital for a medical examination.
“A case of statutory rape will be opened. The 39-year-old suspect was arrested and will appear in the New Brighton court on Monday 16 November,” Janse van Rensburg said.
The girl was reported missing from Tshiwula Street in New Brighton on Saturday, 14 Noveber.
She was playing outside in the street with other children before she was abducted by the suspect.
“After 18:00 her grandmother went outside looking for her, but could not find her. She made enquiries with the children she was playing with and they informed the grandmother that the girl went with an adult man.
“They pointed out the house where she was taken in Malakane Street, New Brigthon. The grandmother contacted the police in New Brighton,” Janse van Rensburg said.
