Nelson Mandela Bay executive mayor, Eugene Johnson, recently attended a community outcry programme in Motherwell after a young girl was raped on January 9, a day before her tenth birthday.
Residents of ward 54 banded together to say that enough is enough and petitioned authorities and the executive mayor for assistance.
After hearing the MoJazz Children’s Club’s plea, Johnson stated that children should never have to worry about the safety of their lives or plead for protection and to be looked after. “Children should be concerned about playing and experiencing new adventures to help them grow,” she said.
The perpetrator has not yet been apprehended and is said to have been on the run since the incident.
