THE Al-Furqan Institute in Nelson Mandela Bay recently held its first graduation ceremony, after the first group of students who enrolled for the two-year diploma course in Arabic and Islamic studies and the one-year foundation studies successfully completed their respective courses.

Established in Gqeberha as a non-profit entity two years ago, the institute was a leading Islamic education provider of Arabic and Islamic studies.

According to the Al-Furqan Institute principal, Seikh Muhammad Ariefdien, the aim of the institute was to convey pure teachings of Islam through modern teaching methods.

“The objective is to be at the forefront of Islamic teaching, providing the best possible experience for our students in their pursuit of knowledge and self-development,” said Ariefdien.

He explained that the diploma programme has been carefully designed and structured to give deeper insight into the Islamic sciences like Hadith (sayings of Prophet Muhammad), Islamic jurisprudence and Tafsir (explanation and interpretation of Quranic verses).

“These courses are offered at a tertiary academic level and are taught by suitably qualified lecturers who have a wealth of experience in the Islamic and the professional world,” said Ariefdien.

The Al-Furqan Institute delivered these courses through part–time classes on selected evenings during the week.

Previously, students who wanted to attain an academic Islamic qualification, had to enrol at institutions in Cape Town or Johannesburg.

“We are delighted to offer our local students the opportunity to further their Islamic knowledge close to home,” Ariefdien said.

The minimum requirement to register for the diploma course is the ability to read the Quran and candidates must be 18 years and older, while the foundation course is open for any person over the age of 18.

Registration for 2022 is now open and prospective students can apply online by visiting the Al-Furqan website www.alfurqan.co.za.

Al–Furqan has campuses in Gqeberha and in Cape Town.
