JOY and anticipation were in the air at Loyiso High School in the Zwide township of Gqeberha, as a local non-profit organisation, Sports Revolution NPO, championed the restoration of the school’s sports facilities.
The partnership has sparked a call to the community to contribute to completing the project, ensuring the renovated netball and tennis courts are both secure and functional for learners and the broader Zwide community next year.
Founded by passionate alumni of Loyiso High School, Bantwini Matika, Portia Yawa, and Nobesuthu Maqhula, who matriculated in 1989, Sports Revolution NPO has eagerly spearheaded the initiative to revive the school’s tennis and netball courts.
“We are driven by the memory of vibrant sports days at Loyiso,” one of the NPO’s founders, Bantwini Matika said.
“Our ambition is to make the school a hub for sports development, extending beyond just the school to include the entire community.”
While the refurbishment of the court surface is nearing completion, the project now depends heavily on community support for fencing to prevent vandalism.
Raymond Mali, Principal of Loyiso High School, voiced his enthusiasm about this new chapter in the school’s history, seeing it as a catalyst for revitalising sports culture in township schools.
“This initiative is a beacon of hope for us, promising to revive the joy of sport at Loyiso High and across the community,” Principal Mali said.
“We humbly appeal to the private sector and caring citizens to assist us in fencing the court. This gesture will safeguard a quality facility for our learners and all children in Zwide.” Through their collaboration, Loyiso High School and Sports Revolution do not only aim to restore a beloved sports facility but also to reignite community spirit, demonstrating how collective action can pave the way for a brighter, more active future for everyone involved.
