Detectives from the Provincial Organized Crime Investigation Unit are on the hunt for two male suspects who allegedly shot and killed two security officers yesterday afternoon, February 22 at approximately 16:35 in KwaZakhele.

Detectives from the Provincial Organized Crime Investigation Unit are on the hunt for two male suspects who allegedly shot and killed two security officers yesterday afternoon, February 22 at approximately 16:35 in KwaZakhele. 

It is alleged that the two security officers were escorting a company truck to a depot in Marongo Street, KwaZakhele. The driver of the truck was going to do some deliveries and the security officers stopped directly behind the truck.

Police spokesperson, Capt. Gerda Swart, said that two armed male suspects suddenly appeared from behind the escorting vehicle and fired several shots through the open windows of the vehicle at the security officers, fatally injuring both.

“The suspects then took both firearms (9mm) of the two security officers and fled on foot from the scene. The officers were 43 and 34 years old,” she explained. 

“The names of the victims will be released once formal identification has been completed. The suspects are unknown and detectives are currently following up on all possible leads,” she added.

A case of murder with two charges is under investigation and the motive is yet to be established.
