Robbery suspect nabbed, stolen goods recovered after man is robbed on his way to work


SAPS KwaDwesi detectives arrested a robbery suspect and recovered stolen
goods and a firearm yesterday morning, March 26, in KwaMagxaki, after a man was robbed waiting for his lift to work.

On Friday, the 41-year-old complainant was waiting at a garage in KwaMagxaki when two suspects armed with firearms approached and robbed him of his backpack containing tools. He later reported the robbery  at KwaDwesi Police Station for further investigation. 

During the investigation, detectives received information about a house where the alleged suspects reside. Yesterday, at 07:00, the
members visited the house and continued to search the premises with the
permission of the occupant. During the search the members arrested a
suspect (28) that was hiding in a cupboard.

As the search continued, the members
recovered the backpack with the complainant’s tools. A firearm, with its serial
number filled off, ten cellphones, two TV’s, a computer with a tower, female watches, ten backpacks with personal belongings and a shoe box containing 2.6kg of Tik were
also confiscated.
 

Police spokesperson, Capt. Sandra Janse van Rensburg, said that the drugs and firearm that were confiscated will be sent to the
laboratory for further testing.

“KwaDwesi detectives will attempt to trace the
owners of the suspected stolen property, however, victims of robbery and theft
cases can also visit SAPS KwaDwesi and make enquiries. As part of the
investigation they will also look at linking the suspect with other cases. One
suspect is still at large,” she said.

The suspect was arrested on charges of robbery with a firearm, the possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of suspected stolen property and the possession of drugs. The suspect will appear in the New Brighton
Magistrates Court tomorrow, March 28.
