ALL roads lead to the Motherwell Football Association (MOFA) 2022 Easter Tournament, which has one of the biggest purses on the Eastern Cape sporting calendar.

According to MOFA deputy president, Bonke Namba, the total prize money for the tournament is R45 000.

Namba stated that the first prize is R20 000, which is sponsored by Swartkops KwikSPAR owner, Adri Swart, and the remaining R25 000 is paid for by the Football Transformation Forum (FTF), in partnership with PSL side, Chippa United.

This major tournament will be played by more than 30 teams, and takes place at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium from April 15 to 18. Namba revealed that unlike as in previous years, night games would not take place at the Motherwell NU 2 Stadium, since its floodlights had been badly vandalised.

Namba stated that the winners would pocket the prize money of R20 000, floating trophy and 25 gold medals while the runners up would settle for R10 000 and 25 silver medals.

The losing semi-finalists go home with R4 000 each while the losing quarter-finalists receive R1 000 each.

The junior teams from U/9 to U/17 will receive medals and trophies.

The ladies’ teams will also participate during the tournament.

Namba said, “The teams will be divided into groups as the tournament will start off in a round robin format and it will end in a knockout format.

Law enforcement agencies will be visible during the tournament to make sure that it is safe (for supporters) to watch our games.”

MOFA acting president, Lukhanyo Wasa, thanked Swart for his financial support to make the tournament a resounding success.

Wasa said, “I would like to thank Swart for his major contribution to MOFA.

“I would like to appeal to our community members to support our major sponsors.

“I would like to thank FTF and Chippa United Football Club chairperson, Chippa Mpengesi, for injecting funds towards the development of grassroots sport.”
