MOTHERWELL Football Association (MOFA)’s Easter Weekend Tournament’s last 16 games took place at Motherwell NU 1 and NU 2 Stadiums on Sunday.

Since 27 teams took part in the tournament, MOFA local organising committee (LOC) decided that two stadiums should be utilised for the tournament.

At Motherwell NU 1 Stadium, FC Motherwell defeated Liverpool 2-1 in their tough game. Showvillage United Brothers failed to book themselves a berth in the quarter-finals as they succumbed 1-0 to MOFA KO Cup winners Manchester FC.

Wells Estates United also advanced to the quarter-finals following their 2-1 win over the much-improved Real City FC. Khuphuka Stars’ supporters were ecstatic when they saw their side booking a place in the quarter-finals by hammering AmaUnits 3-0, also at Motherwell NU 1 Stadium.

The youthful and most improved side, Motherwell United, under coach Shakes Mchani, earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory over AmaXhosa FC at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium on Sunday.

It was crunch time when United FC overcame the hot favourites, Lion City, 2-1 in front of their many supporters. Crystal Palace, who are tipped to win the tournament, punished Wells Estates Blue Birds 3-0.
