WELLS Estates side, Manchester FC, took the honours when they overcame Swartkopsvalley United Brothers (SUBS) 7-6 in a penalty shoot-out, after their full-time goalless draw during Motherwell Football Association (MOSA) Easter Tournament finals at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium on Easter Monday.
However, Manchester managed to knock out the cup specialists, FC Motherwell, 2-0 in their semi-final that took place at Motherwell NU 1 Stadium on Easter Monday. SUBS, who were the hot favourites, registered a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace during their exciting semi-final at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium on Easter Monday.
Since both sides played two games each on Easter Monday morning before the finals, players showed some signs of fatigue. SUBS had some handful goal scoring opportunities but their strikers failed to make them count.
During the penalty shoot-out, Manchester FC Zamikhaya Yoko, who won the best goalkeeper award, helped his side to win.
Manchester FC went home with the R20 000 first prize, thanks to Swartkops KwikSPAR, a floating trophy and 25 gold medals. SUBS received R10 000 and 25 silver medals. Palace and FC Motherwell received R4 000 each, while the losing quarter-finalists went home with R1 000 each.
Swartkops KwikSPAR owner, Abraham Abri Swart, who handed over a cheque to MOFA acting president Lukhanyo Wasa on Monday, said that his heart was bursting with joy when he saw hundreds of soccer spectators in attendance.
Swart said, “I will keep on supporting MOFA because I see that people are so enthusiastic. I am happy that our financial assistance had helped to develop grassroots sport. Swartkops KwikSPAR is uplifting the standard of the community.”
MOFA acting president, Lukhanyo Wasa, thanked Swart for adding value to the MOFA.
Wasa said, “Swartkops KwikSPAR owner Swart has changed our lives. He provided food for our u/9 and u/11 teams. I appeal to our community members to support Swartkops KwikSPAR because they understand our plight.
“I would like to thank Football Transformation Forum and Chippa United for their financial support to MOFA to make our event a success. I would like to thank Cyber Internet for their support during our major event.
