The state will be opposing the so-called new facts that were presented by the legal representative of Arnold Terblanche last month during a request for a second bid for bail.

Terblanche, who is accused of conspiring to murder his estranged wife, Vicki Terblanche, in October last year, has been in custody since November 2021. He was arrested after Vicki’s body was found in a shallow grave in Greenbushes in October last year.

The 55-year-old appeared in court for a second bail application based on new facts after his bid for bail was denied by this court in January this year. His appeal against this decision was also dismissed by the Gqeberha High Court early last month.

One of the supposed new facts that Terblanche’s legal representative, Alwyn Griebenow, read into the record, was the allegation that Vicki was never abused by her husband but that she was allegedly the abuser.

During today’s court sitting, it was said in court that the state has filed a notice to oppose the new facts bail application.

“The state will be opposing the application on the basis that the evidence previously brought before court does not establish the existence of new facts,” the notice read.

Magistrate Kriban Pillay postponed the matter to May 10 for the state to officially oppose.
