The Eastern Province selectors will take a good look at the available talent at the annual Meyer Sauerman school rugby day on Saturday.

This year it will take place at Volkskool in Graaff-Reinet.

The players will be looking forward to displaying their skills in drier conditions than those of the past weekend, where most of the matches were played on wet fields.

For some of the teams it is back to the drawing board this week, after poor skill levels cost them dearly in the wet conditions.

There were some fine performances, though, with Muir College and Pearson producing an entertaining match in Kariega.

Muir won 34-22 and scored some beautiful tries. The one by Liyabona Kasibe was a real gem.

Grey can also feel satisfied with their performance on their home field, against Graeme College.

Grey scored four tries, two of them by replacement loose forward Tristan van Aardt, to win 30-3.

Marlow only scored one try in downing Framesby 22-3 in a disciplined display in Cradock but fly half, Aiden de Villiers, added 17 points with five penalties and a conversion.

Upcoming fixtures:

Today: Bethelsdorp v BP, Bertram v Westville, Chatty v Sanctor.

Saturday: Cillie v Muir, Graeme College v Kingswood College, Derby Day at Uitenhage High, St Andrew’s College v Grey, Meyer Sauerman Day at Volkskool.

Last week’s First XV results:

  • Grey 30, Graeme College 3;
  • Marlow 22, Framesby 3;
  • Bergsig 46, McLachlan 19;
  • Brandwag 53, Humansdorp Sekondêr 15;

Moment of the week:
