SAPS Gelvandale detectives are urgently seeking the community’s assistance in tracing the mother of a newborn baby that found in a sanitary bin last night, May 8, in Cleary Park.

The Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual  Offences Unit in Motherwell is seeking the community’s assistance in tracing the parents of a baby that was found abandoned in New Brighton on Sunday, June 26.

It is alleged that on the mentioned date at about midday, a community member was looking for scrap metal when he stumbled on a baby in a box near a tree in a park in Gqalo Street.

“He then sought the assistance of other community members and contacted the police. The child was fully clothed and alive. He is about one month old. He was taken to Dora Nginza hospital,” said Colonel Priscilla Naidu, police spokesperson. 

A case of child neglect is under investigation.

“Police are appealing to anyone who can assist in tracing the parents of this child or may know of any woman who may have given birth recently and is no longer with a child to contact D/W/O Riaan Krause on 071 352 4674 or Crime stop on 08600 10111 or their nearest police station. All information is confidential and callers may remain anonymous.”
