A SHERWOOD woman is able to buy her dream home after winning R1,6 million at the Boardwalk Casino recently.
“God has given me what I’ve been praying for a very long time, and made a miracle happen for me,” said the woman, 71, who runs her own business from a rented house, where she also lives with her daughter.
“I have had a very difficult time these past few years.
“I got divorced and also did not have any income for eight months during the pandemic,” said the woman, who asked to remain anonymous.
During this time, she was supported by her church, with food parcels and accommodation.
Now running her own business, she is back on her feet, but was unable to finance her own home.
“Thanks to Boardwalk and winning this money on the Sunstriker machine, I am looking for a three-bedroom house to buy, which has enough space so that I can live and work from home.”
She will also give her siblings each a portion of her win, and plans to treat herself to a massage for her sore back.
Last week Sunday, after lunch with her daughter she decided to visit the Boardwalk Casino.
“I enjoy playing the 10c and 15c machines occasionally, usually when I am in the beachfront area doing a delivery and am done for the day. It relaxes me and helps me get my mind off life’s stresses.”
She had been playing for about an hour when she struck the jackpot.
“I was stunned, I couldn’t get anything out, and then I screamed when the amount came up at the bottom of the screen,” she recalled. “You visit the casino hoping you will get lucky and it doesn’t always end up that way, so I was definitely lucky to win big,” she added.
“We had an owl on our roof for about a week previously, and thinking back, I think it was a sign of luck for me.”
