A robbery suspect shot and killed his accomplice whilst they were busy trying to rob a resident in Ikamvelihle in Nelson Mandela Bay yesterday, July 10.
According to police spokesperson, Capt. André Beetge, at approximately 20:30 last night, a 34-year-old resident from the Nomakanjane area was walking home when he was approached by two armed males.
Fearing that they were going to rob him, he attempted to flee from them. They chased him, and after hitting him in the face with one of the firearms, he fled into a nearby shack.
“One of the suspects went into the shack after him while the other opened fire on the shack from the outside, which fatally injured the suspect in the shack when one of the bullets hit him in the eye,” Beetge explained.
“The suspect outside, realising that he shot and killed him, then grabbed his accomplice’s fire arm and fled from the scene. The resident that fled from them was uninjured, apart from the slight wound when they pistol-whipped him,” Beetge added.
“The 39-year-old suspect that was killed cannot be named as his next-of-kin has not yet been informed. A murder docket was opened and is being investigated by SAPS Ikamvelihle.”
Any person with information that could assist police with the investigation, can contact detective Capt. Debbie Steyn on 082 394 8369 or remain anonymous on 08600 10111.
