A few weeks ago, employees at the Toshiba building in Fairview, where Security Management Solutions (SMS) and PE Express, among others, are situated, welcomed a new staff member and although she can’t help meet deadlines or monitor surveillance cameras, she does a great job of entertaining everyone with her ball skills.
The staff’s furry new friend made herself at home on the top floor of the building, where she was basically adopted by SMS staff.
Known lovingly as Lilypod by everyone in the building, the cat seems domesticated since she is tame and very affectionate, suggesting that she might belong to someone in the vicinity and could’ve just lost her way.
Lilypod, who loves playing ball, has her own space upstairs with her litter box and is also regularly fed and cared for. SMS staff also ensured that Lilypod has been dewormed and will have her sterilised before she is adopted.
Although she has managed to crawl deep into the hearts of many staff members, it is not feasible for Lilypod to stay in the building, as she needs a proper home. None of the staff members are able to take her home either since they either already have pets or are allergic to cats.
SMS staff members are therefore appealing to members of the community to consider adopting Lilypod or for her owner to come forward and claim her, if she has one.
SMS employee, Madeleine Smit, said that Lilypod was found in their warehouse by another employee approximately a month ago.
“He started bringing food for her and a warm blanket to sleep on.
“I bought a litter box and toys for her and brought a box with blankets,” Smit said.
Another employee, Annalie Green, has also grown attached to Lilypod and said that she feeds her every day.
“We are really attached to her, all of us. When I feed her in the morning she just comes up to me and follows us around all day,” Green said.
Smit added that a lot of people have phoned to enquire about Lilypod, thinking that it might be their own cat that went missing but it turned out to not be the case as she didn’t have any of the markings of those missing cats.
“A lot of people that have missing cats have even brought food for her,” Smit added.
Although she will probably cry when Lilypod is adopted, Green said that she knows it is best for her to find a decent home, especially since she sleeps outside at night as she is not allowed to stay in the office building during the night.
They are also not comfortable with her being on her own outside on weekends when no one is at the office.
Anyone who would like to take Lilypod into their care can contact Smit on WhatsApp on 083 554 3352.
